Bernard J. (Bernie) Milano is the former president of the KPMG Foundation and The PhD Project. Bernie in a CPA who started his career with KPMG in their Philadelphia office Audit Department. Over the years he moved in to university recruiting heading up their national university relations program. Later he was in charge of HR and for the past 20+ years in charge of their Foundation. He along with others founded The PhD Project, a national program to attract more diversity to university business schools. Now 25 years old The Project has invested some $50 million with results that are outstanding; a 400% increase in the number of minority (African-American, Hispanic-American and Native American) business faculty with earned Ph.D. degrees. Bernie serves on several Boards of Directors including Points of Light; Beta Gamma Sigma; the Episcopal Diocese of Newark, New Jersey; and the KPMG Foundation and PhD Project. Bernie holds honorary doctoral degrees from North Carolina A&T State University, Kent State University and William Paterson University of New Jersey. He and his wife, Professor Sharon Pierson, live in Allendale, N.J., their two sons are Adam who earns his Masters in Social Work from Columbia University in May, 2019, and Matthew who is projected to earn his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cornell in May, 2020. Adam enters the Doctor of Social Work program at University of Southern California in September. Bernie has four older children and six grandchildren.
