Sunwoo is a strategist and entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience in creating, building and managing successful finance–technology companies. As Founder & CEO of SIXUP, a venture-backed FinTech/EdTech company, he is dedicated to not only providing high-achieving, low-income students a pathway to success through access to capital and in-college support, but also defining a credit model that identifies a new asset class for the capital markets.
Prior to Sixup, Sunwoo was Managing Director of Proof Ventures, where he specialized in global investment in and market development of emerging companies within the U.S.-South Korea corridor. Prior to Proof Ventures, Sunwoo managed a consumer technology incubator that focused on innovating sports marketing digital media platforms and partnering with brands such as Adobe, HP and Beats by Dr. Dre.
Sunwoo started his technology career in FinTech and enterprise software. He was an early-stage co-founder of Northstar Systems, a SaaS wealth management platform, later acquired by SEI Investments (NASDAQ: SEIC). Prior to Northstar, Sunwoo served as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at 12 Entrepreneuring, a $130 million incubator backed by Benchmark Capital and Goldman Sachs. He was also an operating executive at GlobalCommerce, a B2B e-commerce company backed by G.E. Capital, where he led corporate strategy initiatives and established strategic alliances with FinTech leaders like IdenTrust and TSYS.
Upon graduation, Sunwoo joined A.T. Kearney, where he was a management consultant and advised such clients as Samsung Electronics and Electronic Data Systems on strategical and operational initiatives.
He is a graduate of Northwestern University and is an avid snowboarder, wannabe celebrity chef and former U.S. National Judo Champion.
