Dr. Shannon McGhee is the Director of Retention and Student Success at West Virginia State University where she develops, facilitates, and evaluates the University’s retention efforts. She also works to address broader issues of persistence and retention to sharpen the University’s focus on overall student success. Using data-driven strategies to bring collaborative energy to the campus community, she is an advocate for students and is passionate about holistic support to ensure their educational success.
Dr. McGhee began her career within the Social Services field working with children and adolescents in foster care. She then transitioned into Higher Education approximately 14 years ago and has worked at multiple types of institutions in various capacities. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and her research interests include access and persistence among underserved populations.
