Dr. Lena Tran currently serves as Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Workforce Innovation at San Jose City College. She holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Montclair State University, an MBA from Seton Hall University, and an Ed.D. Degree in organizational leadership from the University of San Francisco.
Dr. Tran has held administrative positions at Seton Hall University, the University of California at Santa Cruz, and Evergreen Valley College, where she led successful initiatives in program development, community partnerships, outreach, and student success. She has served as Director of Student Life at Seton Hall University, Director of Business, Education, and Allied Health at UC Santa Cruz Extension, and Dean of Business and Workforce Development at Evergreen Valley College.
Dr. Tran’s professional background has included working with established technology firms in New York City and startup companies in Silicon Valley. She is the author of Compassionate Vietnamese American CEOs: How six entrepreneurs achieve bottom line success by leading with their heart.
Dr. Tran has given many successful presentations based on her broad business and academic interests, including: Cultural Intelligence, Perfect Micro Manager, National Culture and Leadership Practices, Ethnic Marketing, Transitioning from the Classroom to the Boardroom, and Emotional Intelligence for Ethnically Based Organizations.
Because she believes it is important for leaders in education to engage with the wider community, she has served on the boards of organizations that promote a community free of bias, bigotry, and violence by transforming youths into leaders, and developing health care and educational opportunities for disadvantaged people in Asia. Dr. Tran has long experience creating and leading strategic community partnerships to serve the special needs of students who have been historically underrepresented in higher education, e.g., Southeast Asians, African Americans, and Latinos, or who are the first in their families to attend college.
Lena was a recipient of Stanford Education Leadership Initiative and California Forward 2018 award. A recipient of John & Roueche Excellence Award 2017. She was an invited honored at the Fulbright Scholar College Administrators Seminar in Russia in 2016. She was named to the “100 Women of Influence in Silicon Valley” list in 2015 and the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40” in 2009. Dr. Tran serves on the boards of Eastside Union High School District and the Career Technical Education Advisory Board.
