John Canuel brings over 35 years of experience K-12 leadership, teaching and learning. As Director of Strategic Consulting Services, he works with school district and school leaders in visioning, planning and implementing blended learning programs to support student needs and district priorities.

Previously, as President of JMCanuel Consulting, he consulted with various companies, organizations and school districts in strategic planning and leadership models to maximize time and resources, focused on student learning.

Prior to this work, John served as VP of K-12 Strategy with a major online learning provider. In this role, he worked with district/state/national online learning groups, international organizations and education leaders in effectively leading best practices, products and models in digital teaching and learning.

John held various positions with Jeffco Public Schools in Golden, CO, including classroom teacher, staff developer, curriculum director, and technology/library director. As Jeffco’s Executive Director for Educational Technology Services, John successfully implemented technology integration models and online learning programs. Under John’s leadership, comprehensive online learning programs were implemented in more than 150 Jeffco schools to meet the needs of 7,000 teachers and 86,000 students. The programs included online professional development, digital professional learning communities, a full-time virtual academy plus a complete spectrum of full-time online learning, hybrid learning and blended online learning programs. This work was nationally recognized by the National School Board Association, Center for Digital Education and Blackboard Inc.

John also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for McREL International, a non-profit, non-partisan education research and development organization that turns knowledge about what works in education into practical, effective guidance and training for K-12 teachers and education leaders across the U.S. and around the world.
