Dr. DeRhonda McWaine is Department Chair for the College Preparatory Division at San Jacinto College. Prior to becoming Chair, she served as a Faculty member, District Student Success Coordinator, and Counselor for Disability Services. She considers herself a lifelong educator and has been involved in the educational realm for nearly 20 years.

DeRhonda currently serves on the Board for The Rhodes School for Performing Arts as Board Secretary and is actively engaged with On Course, an organization dedicated to student success in higher education. She is also a 2015 Alumnus of LMI (Leadership and Mentoring Institute) and is a life member of TABPHE (Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education). She is the recipient of the John and Suanne Roueche Excellence Award, a national award given to Higher Education professionals.

Dr. McWaine received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, her Master’s degree in Counseling and PhD in Psychology, with a specialization in Educational Psychology. She also holds a certification in Developmental Education.
