Dale Allender is the co-editor of Our Stories in Our Voices the first high school Ethnic Studies anthology focusing on Ethnic communities in Northern California and their intermingling histories. Dale Allender was the Lead Content advisor for eight Annenberg Foundation professional development television series including the award-winning The Expanding Canon, produced by WNET, New York City ‘s public television station; Reading and Writing in the Disciplines produced by WGBH in Boston; and six series on literature instruction and writing development produced by MPT in Baltimore, Maryland. Dale completed his PhD under the direction of Dr. Allan Luke at the University of Queensland, Australia where he explored the role of ethnically diverse sacred narratives in English language arts classrooms.

Dr. Allender is currently an Associate Professor of language and literacy in the Department of Teaching Credentials at California State University-Sacramento where he teaches courses in academic literacy; Educational Foundations of a Democratic Multicultural Society; and Ethnic Studies. Dr. Allender also Co-Chairs of Ethnic Studies Now-Sacramento, he facilitates and provides Ethnic Studies professional development for teachers teaching Ethnic Studies in the Sacramento City Unified School District. Dr. Allender serves as a consultant for the National Urban Alliance where he has mentored students, teachers and administrators on academic and social engagement at schools in Buffalo, New York, Bridgeport Connecticut and San Francisco, California.

Dr. Allender’s awards include a 2.6 million dollar grant from the United States Department of Education’s Department of Hispanic Serving Institutions to support a bilingual multicultural education teaching credentials ecosystem, including a web-based professional development platform focusing on Ethnic Studies education; the Summer Institute for Echoes and Reflections Scholars in Jerusalem Fellowship; the Washington DC Area Writing Project Gala Honorary Chair; a National Association for Multicultural Education Media Award and the US International Film and Video Festival Gold Camera Award. 2004. A Mississippi Council of Teachers of English Award of Appreciation; and a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute for Native American Literature fellowship.

Dale Allender is the founder of the West Coast office of the National Council of Teachers of English, which he directed at the University of California Berkeley from 2003-2015.
