K.C. Matthews is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, but has called Colorado “home” for nearly 38 years. He holds both Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Mechanical Engineering, and is certified as a Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado. His non-profit service has been focused on organizations that provide affordable housing, and those which train and mentor underserved and underrepresented youth. K.C. was previously a member of the Kappa Housing Inc. (KHI) Board of Directors from 1996-2015, serving as the KHI Secretary from 1997-2001 and 2004-2008, and has been a member of the Denver Kappa Alpha Psi Scholarship Foundation Board of Directors since 2000, serving as Secretary from 2004-2016, and the 1st Vice-President from 2016 to the present. He has also been a member of the YouthRoots Board of Directors since 2016. K.C. is very active in the Denver Metro Area community and has received numerous community service awards for his work with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Cure d’ Ars Catholic church, the National Society of Black Engineers, and other community-based organizations. He and his wife of 30 years, Mary Matthews, have three adult children: Brenden, Ashton, and Janaye, and one granddaughter, Astra.
