Heather Bussell is the owner and director of The Children’s Garden Nursery School, Inc. located in the rural town of Ashby, Massachusetts. Heather received her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Northeastern University in 1991. Having grown up in Ashby, Heather saw the need for a local preschool program to support the youngest community members with a safe place to learn and grow and The Children’s Garden Nursery School was created. Now operating for 28 years, the program has expanded to serve 79 children each day: including Infants, toddlers, preschool and school age.
Proud of the long term relationships she has with her community and local families, Heather was named “Local Hero” by Massachusetts Congress Woman Lori Trahan in May 2020 for her commitment to providing childcare to essential workers during the coronavirus pandemic. She is an active member of The Montachusett Directors Group and loves to be able to collaborate with other ECE providers for shared learning, support and advocacy.
Married to husband, Michael, for 33 years, proud mother of 3 and “Mimi” to 3, soon to be 4 grandchildren- family is everything. “I love my town and raising our family, along with doing the work I enjoy so much, has been a gift“! Heather is a beach fanatic and always has an interesting destination vacation in the works.
