Elsa Yehdego is a First Generation college scholar, and an immigrant who was born and raised in Axum, Tigray in Ethiopia – where poverty and lack of resources became obstacles while pursuing her dreams. Growing up in a developing country, Elsa understood early on that education was and continues to be the only way out of poverty. Working with GlobalMindED as the Director of Research has allowed her to contribute to a movement dedicated to creating educational access for students. Elsa completed her B.A. at the University of Northern Colorado in International Affairs with an emphasis in the Middle East and Africa and double-minored in Africana Studies and Recreation, Tourism, and Hospitality. Elsa then graduated from the University of Denver with her M.A. in International Development specializing in Conflict Resolution, Gender and Human Rights. In 2018, she attended the GlobalMindED Conference where she was influenced to change her career path from Nursing to International Affairs and gained more understanding of becoming an excellent global citizen. She is passionate about her role and bringing more talents to YPILC because she knows how influential it can be to surround yourself with ambitious powerful young people. In the long term, Elsa aspires to join either the U.S. Department or the United Nations in her pursuit to advocate for a just and equitable world for all.
