Anthony B. Maddox is a Professor of Clinical Education and Engineering at the USC Rossier School of Education and the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. He is a science teacher educator, Director of the Center for Engineering in Education (CEE), and a Managing Director of USC Rossier EdVentures, a virtual incubator and accelerator for early-stage edtech companies.
Dr. Maddox is a Licensed Professional Engineer and previously an executive with the Los Angeles Urban League, managing a place-based neighborhood initiative in South Los Angeles. He was an industrial engineering and information systems professor at Northeastern University, computer science instructor and NASA Fellow while at Brandeis University, Program Director at the National Science Foundation, and has held technical positions at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Thinking Machines Corporation, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
He was a FORTRAN and assembly language coder in the steel industry in the mid-1970s, studied binary computer vision at the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute, and researched artificial intelligence and computational linguistics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His interests include the educational applications of computational agency and autonomy, engineering design and thinking, and venture incubation.
